organized by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), the National Press Club and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, 28th May 2010, Islamabad
The objective of this seminar was to provide a forum and a platform to academics and policy-makers for an exchange of ideas on the National Budget 2010. Among the results was the proposal that a tax-free, pro-poor and pro-industry budget should be prepared in line with available resources with federal government. As the provincial government used its best minds to make the budget document welfare-oriented in real terms here were following suggestions:
• The creation of job opportunities through trainings to youth, safe supply of clean drinking water, improvement in the drainage system, education to all and development of the agriculture sector.
• to improve service delivery through use of additional funds under NFC award.
• to prioritize infrastructure programme through better utilization of public welfare policies i.e. public investment aiming at local development through tapping local resources.
